USA, October 31, 2025 — Somalia, Algeria, Guyana, and Sierra Leone have strongly condemned the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Sudan terming it “a horrifying reality.”
During a UN Security Council meeting on Thursday the three countries demanded accountability, protection of civilians and immediate cessation of hostilities.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Amar Bendjama, Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, described the situation in Al-Fashir as “a horrifying reality” following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) takeover, which has led to widespread civilian casualties, starvation, and suffering.
“The scenario we all feared and advocated to avoid has now become a horrifying reality. The Rapid Support Forces have seized control of Al-Fashir after more than 18 months of a siege marked by starvation, suffering, and despair,” Bendjama said.
He cited reports of the killing of more than 460 patients in a maternity hospital, adding: “A place meant to heal, not to kill. A place meant to give life, turned into a massacre site.”

Bendjama warned, “These atrocities cannot be met with indifference and procedural caution. The RSF have to be held accountable for their violations and atrocities. Accountability is a strong deterrent, and this Council must ensure that the RSF does not continue to kill and brutalize innocent civilians with impunity.”
He also criticized external interference: “Those providing support to the perpetrators of these atrocities, including through the supply of arms and mercenaries, are unfortunately enabling the slaughter of the Sudanese people.”
On the path forward, Bendjama said: “There is no military solution to the conflict. Only dialogue, only negotiation can bring peace. We call for the immediate cessation of hostilities in and around Al-Fashir to pave the way for a negotiated settlement of the conflict.”
He concluded by reaffirming the coalition’s stance: “We reaffirm our commitment to the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Sudan. Enough suffering in Sudan, enough bloodshed. It’s time for restraint. It’s time for realism. It’s time for peace.”
