Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – One militant was killed, and a vehicle rigged with explosives was destroyed when an airstrike targeted a house in the Adan Yabal district, in the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia on Saturday evening. The information was confirmed by intelligence sources to Dawan Africa and eyewitnesses in the area, including Adan Abal.
The vehicle, a black Toyota Land Cruiser, was reportedly being stored at the residence by Al-Shabaab militants. The airstrike triggered a powerful explosion from the vehicle, with witnesses reporting significant damage to the surrounding area and a shockwave felt across the neighborhood.
The driver of the explosive-laden vehicle was killed in the strike, but further details regarding additional casualties or damages remain unconfirmed. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but initial reports suggest the operation was part of a larger effort to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s operational network.
The attack highlights the ongoing efforts by Somali and international forces to combat Al-Shabaab, an extremist group linked to al-Qaeda. The group has been responsible for numerous attacks in the Horn of Africa, seeking to destabilize Somalia’s government and impose its radical ideology.
The use of airstrikes to target key Al-Shabaab operatives and their explosives is part of an intensified military campaign, supported by Somali forces and African Union peacekeepers, aimed at eliminating the group’s presence in critical areas of the country.
