Ethiopia, 1 December 2025 — African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf has praised Algeria’s role in strengthening African diplomacy and its principled positions at the UN Security Council.
Youssouf made the remarks during his keynote address at the opening session of the 12th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, known as the “Oran Process,” held in Algiers.
He commended the contributions of both Sierra Leone and Algeria during their term on the Security Council, while welcoming the Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia as new incoming members.
Youssouf described their accession as a pivotal moment for advancing Africa’s collective voice on the international stage.

He noted that the A3 Group (three African members of the UN Security Council) continues to play a crucial role as a coordination bridge between the African Union and the United Nations, ensuring that African positions are reflected in global decision-making.
The AU Chairperson stressed the importance of strengthening African unity, advancing the implementation of UN Resolution 2719, intensifying efforts to combat terrorism, and limiting external interference in African affairs. He also highlighted the need for fair and sustainable financing for African-led peace operations.
Youssouf further underscored the importance of achieving justice for Africans and people of African descent through the principle of reparations, describing it as a key component of historical redress and comprehensive justice.
