Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) — The leadership of the African Union Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) on Tuesday met with ambassadors and senior representatives from the mission’s troop- and police-contributing countries (T/PCCs) to review operational coordination and assess progress in Somalia’s stabilization efforts.
The meeting, held in Mogadishu, brought together representatives from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda — the countries currently contributing military and police personnel to AUSSOM. These T/PCCs provide infantry units, technical support teams, and police officers who support AUSSOM’s mandate to assist Somali-led stabilization.
The session was chaired by Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene, Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AUSSOM. He was joined by Deputy SRCC Amb. Mouktar Osman Kaire, Force Commander Lt. Gen. Sam Kavuma, and Police Commissioner Hillary Sao Kanu, along with other senior officials.
In a statement published on its official channels, AUSSOM said the meeting focused on strengthening operational coordination and reviewing progress since the mission's formal launch earlier this year.
“Those present were commended for their commitment to Pan-Africanism and Somalia’s peace building process,” the statement read.
Ambassador Diene reportedly pledged to deepen coordination with contributing countries and called on the international community to maintain support for the mission. No new information was provided about possible troop adjustments or deployment timelines.
The meeting comes as AUSSOM continues its phased transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), following a shift in mandate aimed at supporting Somalia’s security ownership, targeted stabilization operations, and political consolidation.
