Mogadishu, Somalia – The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) has strongly condemned on March-20-2025, a mortar attack carried out by Al-Shabaab on Aden Adde International Airport and nearby residential areas, which caused damage and widespread panic as they said.
n an official statement released today, AUSSOM described the assault as a “barbaric act” targeting civilians and underscored the extremist group’s disregard for human life.
Sivuyile Bam, Deputy Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission and Acting Head of AUSSOM, reaffirmed the mission’s support for Somalia’s peace and stabilization process.
AUSSOM extended its condolences to the families of those affected and wished a full and speedy recovery to those injured.
The attack comes amid intensified military operations by Somali forces in coordination with international allies, aimed at degrading the operational capabilities of Al-Shabaab, a group officially designated as a terrorist organization by the African Union, United Nations, United States, and other international actors.
