Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The Banadir Regional Administration has launched today the reconstruction of the “Saddexda Geed” road in Shangani district, part of a broader urban road upgrade under the Somalia Urban Resilience Project II.
The 3.94-kilometre project, awarded to Mogadishu-based BuruuJ Construction & Real Estate and funded by the International Development Association, includes road sections in Shangani, Hamarweyne, and Shibis districts. The 14-month contract is valued at USD 3.23 million, with an evaluated bid of USD 2.6 million, and will upgrade roads to modern bitumen standards.
Governor and Mayor of Mogadishu, Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), said the initiative will enhance mobility, economic growth, and restore the historic character of the city. He urged residents to protect the new infrastructure and called on property owners to rebuild derelict homes in Shangani, promising the administration will remove bureaucratic obstacles to redevelopment.
The project marks a key step in Banadir’s broader effort to modernize urban infrastructure, improve road safety, and support the city’s post-conflict recovery.
