Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – The British Embassy in Mogadishu and Premier Bank Somalia have signed a partnership agreement under the UK’s Chevening Scholarship programme to support one Somali student to pursue a one-year master’s degree in the United Kingdom for the 2025/2026 academic year.
“This contribution will help support a talented Somali student to access a world-class UK education and join a global network of future leaders, returning home equipped to make a lasting impact,” said British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles King.
Premier Bank Somalia CEO, Dr Mohamed Ghedi Jumale, said: “We are proud to play a part in enabling access to higher education through the Chevening Scholarship. Supporting Somali talent is an investment in our country’s future, and we look forward to seeing the positive contribution this scholar will make.”
Since its launch in Somalia, the Chevening programme has supported over 100 Somali scholars to study in the UK. The scheme, funded by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations, offers one-year master’s degrees to individuals with leadership potential from more than 160 countries and territories worldwide.
Under the new agreement, Premier Bank will provide partial funding towards tuition costs for the selected Somali scholar. The UK and Premier Bank have encouraged further partnerships to invest in young Somalis’ education and leadership development.
