Somalia , 10 January 2025 China has confirmed that the planned visit of Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Somalia, scheduled for 9 January, has been postponed due to adjustments in his official itinerary.
In remarks issued by the spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Somalia, Beijing said the change followed “friendly negotiations” between the foreign ministries of China and Somalia, noting that both sides are currently discussing arrangements for a future visit
“Due to the schedule change and as a result of the friendly negotiation between the foreign ministries of China and Somalia, the Chinese side has adjusted the itinerary of the visit,” the statement said, without providing a new date.

The embassy stressed that China continues to attach great importance to its strategic partnership with Somalia, underscoring Beijing’s consistent political position on Somali unity.
China, the spokesperson added, “steadfastly supports Somalia’s justified effort to safeguard its sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity,” and remains ready to work with Mogadishu to deepen bilateral cooperation across various sectors.
The statement comes amid heightened diplomatic activity in the Horn of Africa and renewed international attention to Somalia’s sovereignty and regional partnerships.
