Nairobi (Dawan Africa) – Dahabshiil Group has entered into a formal partnership with Save the Children to expand support for vulnerable children across the Horn of Africa. The agreement, signed Friday in Nairobi, aims to provide essential services in health, education, nutrition, and child protection to communities affected by poverty, displacement, and conflict.
The partnership will leverage Dahabshiil’s vast regional network and financial infrastructure to scale up Save the Children’s long-standing humanitarian and development programs. Together, both organizations will work to expand access to basic services, raise awareness about children's rights, and engage communities in building sustainable support systems for families.
“This collaboration merges our humanitarian commitment with our identity as a business deeply rooted in the communities we serve,” said Abdirashid Duale, CEO of Dahabshiil Group.“Supporting our people in times of drought, floods, or emergencies is not just a responsibility—it is a tradition for Dahabshiil.”
As one of the largest financial service providers in the region, Dahabshiil operates in remittances, banking, and telecommunications, and is widely recognized for its role in economic development and crisis response across the Horn of Africa.
Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, welcomed the partnership, saying:“This collaboration brings together private sector innovation and humanitarian action to serve children in need. I know Dahabshiil chose the right partner. I’ve witnessed the remarkable work Save the Children does in northern Kenya and in refugee camps.”
Save the Children has worked in East Africa for over six decades, delivering lifesaving programs in Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. In 2023 alone, the organization reached over 4.6 million children across the region, including those affected by drought, displacement, and armed conflict.
Moazzam Malik, CEO of Save the Children UK, emphasized the significance of the alliance:“A genuine partnership between Save the Children and Dahabshiil can bring about real transformation for the children who need it the most.”
Under the agreement, the initiative will offer nutritional support, healthcare access, educational materials, and psychosocial support. It will also empower parents and caregivers with tools and knowledge to support their children’s development, laying the groundwork for long-term resilience.
Both organizations emphasized that monitoring and evaluation will be central to the partnership, ensuring transparency, effectiveness, and adaptability to emerging challenges.
This joint effort not only seeks to address immediate humanitarian needs but also aims to contribute to a more stable and prosperous Horn of Africa for generations to come.
