Djibouti, 9 December 2025 — Djibouti police are investigating the source of expired sugar which was recently seized in Cheikh Moussa neighborhood of Balbala District.
Tests conducted on samples by the National Food Analysis Laboratory (LANAA) revealed that the consignment was contaminated and posed serious health risk if consumed.
The two truck drivers who were arrested in connection with the cargo were arraigned in court on 2 December for handling expired products that posed risks to the wellbeing of residents.

Police say the ongoing investigations will also reveal whether there is a complex network benefiting from the sale of expired goods.
