New York, September 23, 2025 – Djibouti’s President, Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, participated on Monday in a gathering marking the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, joining heads of state, government leaders, and UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
According to the official page of the President of Djibouti, Guelleh used the occasion to call for strengthened international cooperation to address pressing global challenges. In his address, he emphasized the need for collective action to tackle armed conflicts, climate change, widespread poverty, and threats to peace and international security.
Speaking at the gathering in New York, which marked eight decades since the signing of the UN Charter in San Francisco, President Guelleh highlighted the achievements of the past 80 years while stressing the importance of updating UN mechanisms to meet contemporary global challenges.
He also warned of emerging threats that could undermine multilateral cooperation, noting that such risks may foster mistrust, conflict, and instability.
“Djibouti calls for international cooperation to build a global system based on shared goals, where every country—regardless of size or influence—is heard and its legal concerns addressed,” Guelleh said.
The president further underscored the importance of upholding international law as a cornerstone for collective action and urged the creation of new financial resources to support development, peace, and climate justice initiatives.
