Djibouti, 21 September 2025 – Djibouti’s security forces burned more than 6,000 kilograms of illegal khat in the regions of Ali Sabieh and Dikhil on Friday.
Djibouti State media reported that in Ali Sabieh, the regional tax authority and security forces seized 5,000 kilograms of khat destined for Djibouti’s capital.
The khat was destroyed on site in the presence of regional tax director Mohamed Moumin Hassan.
In a separate operation, authorities in Dikhil, supported by security forces, intercepted 1,350 kilograms of khat that had entered the country illegally from Ethiopia.
The consignment was also burned on site.
The officials described the operations as part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal khat smuggling and enforce national trade regulations.
The government said operations and enforcement measures to prevent contraband shipments from reaching city markets will continue across the country.
