Beledweyne(Mogadishu24)-Djiboutian troops under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia(ATMIS) have on Tuesday withdrawn from two key military bases in Beledweyne, the capital of Hiiraan region in central Somalia according to eyewitnesses.
These forces were based in the Regional and District Headquarters in Beledweyne since their deployment in 2011, reports say that their leave was related to security concerns in the area and moved to other location in the same region.
Hirshabelle State and Hiiraan State forces are stationed near those military bases under Djiboutian troops and there were fears of possible confrontation between the sides over the control of the region according to sources.
Djiboutian Army officials and local authorities did not comment on the latest developments there.
But Djiboutian Government deployed 817 soldiers to Beledweyne town in Hiiraan region, replacing another batch under the African Transition Mission in Somalia there in mid January 2024.
