Djibouti, 11 September 2025 – Djiboutian security forces have seized consignments of illegal substances during an operation in Ali Sabieh region.
The operation conducted on Wednesday involved both military and police officers.
The Head of Security in Ali Sableh, Mohamed Moumin, said the confiscated items included 2,500 grams of khat and an assortment of cigarettes that had been smuggled into Djibouti from neighbouring countries.
“We successfully seized a significant amount of contraband cigarettes. We call on the public to stay away from illegal activities. Our forces remain vigilant, day and night,” Moumin said.
The seized items were later destroyed, Djibouti Television reported.
Suspects involved in the smuggling ring have been detained as investigations continue.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to prevent illicit trade in the Horn of Africa country.
