Egypt, 30 September 2025 – Twenty-two Djiboutian women have graduated in Egypt as maritime officers, becoming the country’s first all-female cohort to complete advanced seafaring training.
Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) said on Monday that the group included 18 deck officers and 4 marine engineers.
They were part of a wider class of 397 students from across the region and beyond, including Somalia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Greece, Bangladesh, Syria, and Lebanon, who graduated from the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria.
DPFZA chairman Aboubaker Omar Hadi and Djibouti’s Ambassador to Egypt, Ahmed Ali Barreh, attended the graduation ceremony.
The authority added that the women are expected to join Djibouti’s port and logistics sector, which it described as the backbone of the country’s economic growth strategy.
