Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-Ethiopia has reiterated that the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is not a threat, despite Egypt's concerns that it endangers the Nile River, a vital resource for the country.
In a statement posted on social media, the Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti emphasized that the GERD represents safety and cooperation rather than division or ownership.
"The #GERD is not a threat but rather a safety. It's not a symbol of ownership but partnership. It's not a stamp to divide but a power to unite. It's a way from sole growth to shared development with all riparian countries," the Ethiopian Embassy stated, stressing that the dam is a "game changer" and a symbol of progress from a dream to reality.
Ethiopia's comments come amid ongoing tensions with Egypt, which has repeatedly expressed fears that the GERD could significantly reduce its water supply from the Nile. Ethiopia, however, continues to defend the project, framing it as a tool for regional growth and cooperation among Nile Basin countries.
The dispute remains one of the most sensitive diplomatic issues between Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan, with ongoing efforts to resolve the conflict through negotiations.
