Garissa, Kenya (Dawan Africa) – A fierce fire that broke out at Suuq Mugdi, the largest market in Garissa, has destroyed much of the businesses in the area on 30th June , causing significant damage to the livelihoods of many traders who depend on the market for their daily income. This is not the first time the market has been ravaged by fire.
Although the fire has caused extensive damage, reports from Garissa indicate that the situation is better than in previous incidents due to newly opened roads and a swift emergency response.
Aadan Barre Ducaale, the Secretary of the Cabinet in the Ministry of Health, Kenya, announced that both the national and county governments, as well as local community leaders, will work together to provide immediate and coordinated support to the affected traders.
“I announce that we will coordinate efforts between the national and county governments, along with local leaders, to ensure that immediate and coordinated support is provided to the traders affected by the disaster,” said Minister Aadan Ducaale.
The minister further stated that the priority will be to rebuild the market and restore the livelihoods of those affected. “Rebuilding the market and restoring the livelihoods of the people will be our top priority,” he added.
