Kenya, 30 December 2025 - Former Shinyalu Member of Parliament, Daniel Khamasi, has passed away at the age of 79.
Khamasi, who represented Shinyalu Constituency for two consecutive terms from 1997 to 2007, died on Tuesday morning at a Nairobi hospital following a prolonged illness.
His passing marks the end of a distinguished political career that left a lasting impact on the people of Shinyalu and the broader Kakamega County.
Khamasi’s tenure in Parliament was characterized by his commitment to grassroots development and community empowerment.
During his decade-long service, he championed numerous initiatives aimed at improving education, healthcare, and infrastructure in his constituency.
Many residents recall his hands-on approach, noting that he often engaged directly with community leaders to ensure that development projects met local needs.

Shinyalu’s current MP, Fredrick Lusuli Ikana, led the tributes, describing Khamasi as a “pillar of integrity and service” and a mentor to many young politicians.

“Hon. Daniel Khamasi was more than a politician. He was a father to this community,” MP Ikana said.
