9 January 2026 - One of the top students at Kenyatta High School Mwatate has attributed hard work and family support to the starling performance of A- (Minus) in the just released Kenya Certificate of Secondary (KCSE 2025) examinations.
Speaking from their Masalani home in Garissa County on Friday moments after the release of the results, the elated Salahudin Selel Muhumed said he expected to perform because he knew he had given it all in his studies.
He thanked his family which stood by him in his academic journey, making him comfortable and paying his school fees in a national school without fail.
“I take this opportunity to first thank Allah for the opportunity and to my family members, specifically my elder brother who stood by me ensuring that I got everything I needed,” he said.
The 19-year-old orphan, born in the remote village in Korisa, Ijara’s Garissa County, also appreciated his teachers whom he spoke fondly about, noting that they have always been available when he needed.
“I have always expected to perform better and this success has not come as a surprise, I would like to pursue medicine but I will also consult my family,” he said.
Sixth born in a family of eleven, he scored 395 in his KCPE, becoming second best in his Hara Primary School in Ijara Constituency.
He was called to join Kenyatta High Mwatate in Taita Taveta County, a national school.

His elder brother, Feysal Selel, said they had expected him to perform even better and get a clean A.
He explained that he has been a top performer in both his primary and secondary school exams.
“I expected him to score a straight A but I understand him and his capabilities because he had a bad flu during the examinations period. As an elder brother, I am so proud of him and we will continue giving him the support he needs,” he said.
Feysal said despite his family’s struggles, they ensured he got enrolled to the national school he was called for and gave him the necessary support he required, adding that his performance is also a collective family effort.
The elder brother shared a social media post four years ago encouraging him to perform in his KCPE examinations.
“He said he wants to be a surgeon so I gave him my theatre scrubs and had been the best in his class ever since. With Allah’s guide, he will do wonders. Prayers for this dedicated surgeon to be and his peers,” the brother who is a medic, posted.
His former Primary school head teacher Mr Ahmed Ali Mursal acknowledged that Salahudin has been consistent in excelling in his education noting that he can confidently vouch for his discipline and dedication to studies.
“He was highly disciplined and we as Hara Primary family are proud of his KCSE performance and wish him all the very best,” he said.
