Somalia, 28 October 2025 — Germany has pledged €75 million ( USD 80 million) to support Somalia’s social and economic development over the next two years.
The agreement, signed on Tuesday in Mogadishu by Somalia’s Minister of Planning, Investment, and Economic Development, Mohamed Abdirahman Beene Beene, and representatives from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), prioritizes technical and vocational education and training (TVET), water resource management, agriculture, and rural development.
Minister Beene Beene highlighted that the funding reflects the long-standing partnership between Somalia and Germany, which dates back to 1961, and aligns with Somalia’s National Transformation Plan and ongoing economic reforms.
“This agreement will guide development projects over the next two years. On behalf of the Somali government and people, I sincerely thank the German government and citizens for their continuous support in advancing Somalia’s development agenda,” Minister Beene Beene said.
The new cooperation framework is part of biennial development consultations between Somalia and Germany, designed to review ongoing projects and set new investment priorities.
Previous German-supported initiatives have focused on education, skills training, renewable energy, and public administration reforms.
Officials confirmed that the pledged funds will be disbursed promptly to accelerate ongoing projects and support implementation over the next two years.
Minister Beene Beene emphasized that the agreement will help ensure donor resources are aligned with Somalia’s national development priorities and contribute directly to sustainable growth and social progress.
