Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre on Wednesday attended high level virtual meeting with Arab league states over the diplomatic tension between Somalia and Ethiopia following MoU with Somaliland, leasing 20 kilometers of sea access to Ethiopia.
"In today's Arab League emergency meeting, I highlighted the dangerous plan by Ethiopia to control the entrances to the Red Sea, threatening global trade and navigation. We urged Arab countries to unite and stand with Somalia in confronting this aggressive plan. Solidarity is key", Hamza said.
Referring to Ethiopia's recent actions, the Somali Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre warned against opening a new front for the conflict in Somalia as well as the region.
"It is no secret that the conflicts are raging and the situation is currently tense in most Arab countries. The region is now on a “hot plate,” whether the operations taking place in the Red Sea, or what is taking place in Palestine, Sudan, and Yemen. We warn against opening a new front for the conflict in Somalia, and we will not allow... Our country will be an arena for settling regional or international disputes and conflicts on our lands", he said.
The Arab League State reiterated their complete rejection of any attempts to violate the sovereignty, independence and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia, calling on Ethiopia to adhere to the rules and principles of good neighborliness, respect for the sovereignty of states, and non-interference in their internal affairs, in order to achieve security and stability in the region.
