Mogadishu(Mogadishu24)-The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a meeting on Monday evening with youth, civil society organizations, and scholars to discuss the government's progressive agendas and mobilize support for constitutional changes.
The president briefed them on the government’s achievements and priorities, including completing the constitution, creating job opportunities, increasing income, reducing poverty, the offensive war against terrorism, and implementing the Vision 2060 Agendas.
He commended the vital role played by the youth in strengthening state-building efforts and involvement on the frontlines against terrorist organizations.
President Hassan focused on completing the constitution, which entails the inclusion of a Deputy President replacing the current Prime Minister’s position.
He highlighted the importance and opportunities of joining the East African Community, stating that it will promote the economic growth of the country.
They youths and scholars reaffirmed their commitment to work with the government, emphasizing the importance of the constitution, liberating the nation from terrorism threats, and seeking arms and debt relief.
They stressed the need to collaborate with the government on its efforts to strengthen its missions and vision and promote strategies towards progress.
The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, also launched Somalia’s Centennial Vision 2060 Development Process to strategize Somalia’s main progressive agendas for the next 40 years.
Despite facing challenges like insecurity, Somalia has strengthened its efforts to revitalize its institutions, such as the Defense and Security, Immigration and Registrations departments, anti-corruption agencies, and the auditing and financial management systems.
Earlier this month, the federal government of Somalia launched the Social Protection System of the Unified Social Register aimed at alleviating poverty and food insecurity while enhancing resilience to disasters like droughts, floods, and locusts.
