Kenya, 29 October 2025 – Heavy rainfall pounded several regions of Kenya on Wednesday, including Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Nairobi and its surrounding metropolis, as well as other parts of the country.
Meteorologists have issued warnings of potential isolated storms in the next 24 hours, especially in the evening and in the morning.
The downpours have caused significant disruptions to essential services, particularly newspaper deliveries and the transport of food commodities and supermarket and shop supplies, which often grind to a halt during such intense weather events.
In Nairobi and its metropolis, the areas hardest hit included Kariobangi, Luckysummer, Mwiki, Kasarani, Githurai 44 and Githurai 45, Kahawa West, and Kamiti where residents faced flooded streets and challenging conditions. Other areas included Kayole, Njiru, Kawangware, and Ngando.
Neighbouring Kiambu County also bore the brunt of the rain, with Juja and Ruiru reporting substantial precipitation.
As Kenyans continue their daily routines amid the inclement weather, authorities are urging the public to take precautions.
People are advised to don warm clothing, wear gumboots, and carry umbrellas to stay dry.
Crucially, individuals have been warned against seeking shelter under trees, which could pose a risk of lightning strikes during thunderstorms.
The Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) emphasised the importance of vigilance.
On Tuesday, weatherman had forecasted heavy rainfall over whole of Kuresoi south and parts of Kuresoi north, Molo, Njoro, Naivasha, Gilgil, Bahati and Subukia sub-Counties in Nakuru County.
Residents of Kajiado, Machakos, Kisumu, Busia, Kakamega, and Vihiga also reported experiencing rainfall and chilly weather conditions.
