November 27, 2025 - Residents of Banissa Constituency turned out in large numbers early this morning as voting began to elect their next Member of Parliament. Polling stations across the constituency opened to long queues, with voters eager to exercise their democratic right and choose a leader who will represent their interests in the National Assembly.
Residents appeared hopeful as they prepared to vote for their preferred candidates. IEBC Commissioner Hassan Noor Hassan, who is overseeing the voting process in Banissa, urged residents to return home after casting their ballots and patiently wait for the results.
“We encourage voters to vote and leave the polling stations to avoid unnecessary crowds. Results will be announced later in the day, and we assure everyone of a transparent and credible process,” he said.

UDA candidate Bare Ahmed Mallim Hassan also cast his vote in Banissa Dirb bor polling station , urging his supporters to remain calm as they await the results. He had earlier been denied to vote at his station because his fingerprints were not recognized by KIEMS kit. However, he called for a manual override to be able to vote. “I am optimistic. If elected, I will deliver on the promises made to the people of Banissa,” he said.
On the other hand, Upya Party candidate Nurdin Maalim Mohamed cast his vote and called on residents to turn out in large numbers before polling stations close later in the evening .
Security has been beefed up across all polling stations to ensure peaceful voting. Banissa Constituency has 81 polling stations and 32,000 registered voters participating in the highly anticipated by-election
