20 January 2026 - Ijara Member of Parliament Abdi Ali Abdi has stepped in to address a long-standing water crisis by purchasing water pumps for Korisa residents, after repeated petitions by villagers to the county government over perennial water shortages allegedly went unanswered.
Speaking during the handing over ceremony held at Korisa Shopping Centre, the lawmaker said he had to intervene although water is devolved function after residents complained to his office several times.
The MP who addressed locals noted he was pained by resident’s struggle after water pump that was installed by Ishiqbini Conservancy failed to operate for the last seven months.
“I know very well that this is devolved functions but I was extremely pained by your struggles that is why I bought this machine, and will help in installing it,” he said.
Three elders Mohamud Hajir, Haret Nasteh Noor and Mohamed Dahir Ahmed from Korisa location wrote to Garissa Governor and his County Executive Committee Member (CECM) in charge of water asking for immediate intervention.
In their letter received by the Water Executive on 8 January 2026, the elders said since the establishment of county governments, they have never benefited from any county-funded development water projects.
“We write to bring to your urgent attention the prolonged and severe water shortage facing our community and to request immediate intervention by the County Government,” read part of the letter.

Historically, residents said they were relying on water pans as their main source of water. However, they have become obsolete due to prolonged droughts, siltation, and lack of maintenance, leaving the community without a reliable source of water.
The Ijara lawmaker asked residents to take care of the machine noting that it should be closely maintained and serviced to help residents cope with biting drought that is threatening both animals and human being.
Mr Mohamed Dahir appreciated the MP saying they have several times raised issues of water "but the county government has failed to resolve the situation leaving the community vulnerable."
“We have been without water for the last six months We have asked several offices including yours and county government but you are the one who has responded to our pleas. We thank you so much,” he said.
Another resident, Mr Abdirashid Muhumed, who is an elder, noted how Ishiqbini conservancy had helped them by installation of the piped water as they had been relying on water pans before.
He added that they have been using water bowsers, an alternative that is expensive to most of the residents in the location.
