Kismayo (Dawan Africa) – The Council of Ministers of the Jubbaland State of Somalia has formally accused Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of instigating the escalating conflict in the Gedo region.
In a statement issued Today after their weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), the regional government alleged that the President’s Office is actively engaged in efforts to inflame tensions in Gedo.
"The meeting focused on the situation in Gedo and the growing unrest, which is being fueled by President Hassan Sheikh’s administration, with the intention of prolonging the conflict in the region," the statement read.
Meanwhile, Somalia’s Federal Ministry of Internal Security issued a statement on August 6 accusing certain Jubbaland officials of inciting violence and spreading misinformation to cover up criminal activities.
The exchange of accusations underscores the deepening political rift between the Federal Government and the Jubbaland administration, a dispute largely rooted in the contested governance of Gedo region.
In recent weeks, heavy clashes erupted in Beled-hawo district, where forces loyal to the Federal Government engaged in fighting with Jubbaland-aligned troops. The confrontation resulted in casualties, including both deaths and injuries.
