Kenya, 24 January 2026 - Kenya Airways has temporarily halted its direct flights between Nairobi and New York after severe winter weather swept across parts of the United States, disrupting airport operations and air travel.
The national carrier confirmed the cancellation of flight KQ002 from Nairobi to New York scheduled for Saturday, January 24, as well as the return service, KQ003, set for Sunday, January 25. The decision follows heavy snowfall and poor flying conditions along the US East Coast, where a powerful winter storm has forced airport closures and delays.
In a statement, Kenya Airways said the move was made to protect passengers and crew, noting that safety considerations outweighed operational pressures.
“The safety of our guests and crew remains our highest priority, and these cancellations have been made in the interest of safe operations,” the airline said.

Authorities in several US states have declared emergencies as the storm continues to paralyse transport networks, making transatlantic operations unpredictable. Kenya Airways warned that the disruption could spill over into early next week as airports work to clear flight backlogs and restore normal schedules.
The airline added that its operations teams are closely tracking weather developments and airport readiness to determine when services on the Nairobi–New York route can safely resume.
Passengers affected by the cancellations have been advised to regularly check Kenya Airways’ website, mobile app and official social media channels for updates and guidance on rebooking options.
