Djibouti(Mogadishu24)-The Speaker of the Kenya National Assembly, Moses Masika Wetangula, on Sunday addressed Djibouti’s Parliament and reiterated Kenya’s commitment to enhanced collaboration, diplomatic ties, and shared interests between the two nations.
In his speech, Speaker Wetangula laid out a roadmap for a strengthened partnership, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic strategies and joint efforts for the mutual benefit of Kenya and Djibouti.
“Aligned in their vision and collective destiny, our nations are steadfast in their commitment to fostering integration and development across the Horn of Africa and the Eastern African region,” said Kenyan parliament speaker, Moses Wetangula.
The Kenyan speaker extended a diplomatic invitation to Djiboutian leaders for strengthened discussions on matters of diplomacy and trade.
He further extended an invitation to the members of Djibouti’s National Assembly to collaborate with their counterparts in Kenya through the Kenya-Djibouti Parliamentary Friendship Group to foster engagements promoting free trade, unrestricted movement of people, and the free exchange of goods and services within the region.
“Following the signing of the joint commission for cooperation between Kenya and Djibouti, the facilitation of visa-free entry for Djiboutian citizens into Kenya heralds a new era. I extend a diplomatic invitation for robust engagement on matters of diplomacy and trade, envisioning a harmonious progression for the Horn of Africa region,” Speaker Wetangula stated.
Mr. Wetangula urged the people of Djibouti to align themselves with the Eastern African Community (EAC), which will facilitate the movement of people, goods, and services, fostering wealth creation for both nations.
He announced the resumption of Kenya Airways’ direct flights from Nairobi to Djibouti within the next two months.
“The Kenya Airways will start direct flights from Nairobi to Djibouti within the forthcoming two months. This strategic move is anticipated to create a seamless conduit for the exchange of goods, services, and visitors between the two nations,” he added.
Djibouti and Kenya have agreed to visa-free entry for both citizens earlier this year during President William Ruto’s visit to his counterpart Ismaïl Omar Guelleh at the Palais Présidentiel in Djibouti.
They have also agreed to establish the Kenya-Djibouti business council that will drive commerce, facilitate trade, and business partnerships between the two countries.
