Nairobi(Mogadishu24)-The governments of Kenya and Romania signed four Memoranda of Understanding on Tuesday aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
These agreements, covering trade and investment, environment conservation and climate action, political cooperation, and ICT and Agriculture, were signed during the state visit of Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis to Kenya.
Kenya’s President, William Samoi Ruto, stated that the two countries are exploring strategies to boost trade and investment, particularly in investment opportunities and attracting foreign direct investments to Kenya.
“We reiterated the need to strengthen our relationships on trade and investment between our countries, environment conservation and climate action, political cooperation, ICT, people-to-people engagement on peace and security, and democracy,” President Ruto said.
“Our discussions focused on the strategies and interventions by which we can enhance trade and investment between our countries. We also shared ideas on new opportunities to improve the balance of trade and enhance investments between our two countries,” he added.
President Ruto emphasized the importance of this agreement for the future partnership between Kenya and Romania.
“The implementation of these MoUs will escalate our relations into an effective partnership in the areas of focus,” he added.
President Iohannis of Romania expressed his commitment to working with the Kenyan government to foster trade and investment relations.
“We have agreed to develop cooperation in areas of essential role both for Romania and Kenya; protecting the environment and fighting climate change, civil protection, education, digitalization, and green energy,” said President Iohannis.
He added that Kenya’s political and democratic stability made it an investment hub within the East Africa region and across the continent.
“Kenya is an example of political stability and democratic transition in Eastern Africa. It is also the economic, financial, transport and economic sustainable hub for the entire region.”
“Kenya is a gateway to Africa; it is a democratic and stable country with good prospects,” he added.
The two presidents also agreed to strengthen cooperation across all areas of mutual interest, including political, socio-economic, cultural, and diplomatic domains. They also discussed Environmental Protection and Climate Change, Cooperation on Sanitary Veterinary and Food Safety, Agricultural Research and Cooperation, and the Diplomatic Institute and the Foreign Service Academy of Kenya.
Kenya’s regional and international influence has been growing as it actively participates in global and regional matters such as trade and investments, education, climate action, security and peace.
Earlier this month, Kenya and the Czech Republic reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation on commerce, trade, tourism, education, and culture during the visit of Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala to the State House in Kenya.
Last month, the governments of Kenya and China signed multiple agreements covering various sectors, including communication, technology, medicine, electricity, and road construction.
Kenya has also signed a five-year joint defense cooperation framework with the United States of America, enabling the two countries to enhance compatibility and work together for regional peace and stability.
