Nairobi(Mogadishu24)-In response to easing weather conditions, President William Ruto on Wednesday announced that all Kenyan schools will reopen next Monday. The reopening was initially set for April 29 but was delayed due to severe flooding that has affected the country.
Speaking at State House Nairobi with local leaders, President Ruto assured parents that consultations with the Meteorological Department confirmed it is now safe for children to return to school. The government will also release funds for the repair of flood-damaged schools.
In addition to educational updates, President Ruto declared next Friday a public holiday to honor flood victims and to kick off an extensive tree-planting program aimed at environmental restoration and climate change mitigation. The initiative plans to plant 200 million trees, urging every citizen to participate by planting at least 50 trees.
President Ruto also highlighted ongoing efforts to repair infrastructure damaged by the floods, emphasizing collaboration with development partners to enhance national resilience.
