Kenya, 22 December 2025 - As the year draws to a close, political leaders, corporate organisations, and non-governmental organisations across Kenya have stepped up efforts to connect with communities.
In a surge of end-year goodwill, they are visiting residents to distribute foodstuffs and essential items while organising sports tournaments and festive events to spread cheer and foster unity.
On Sunday, Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron met residents and handed them lorry-loads of maize flour, rice, beans, cooking fat, and bar soap.
For many residents from households that often struggle to meet basic needs, the gesture was more than a seasonal gift.
It was a stark reminder that their struggles are seen and acknowledged.
Dr Oron moved among the crowd, warmly greeting residents and offering prayers for a peaceful festive season and prosperous New Year.
Dr Oron’s outreach goes beyond politics. It is rooted in a belief that leadership is inseparable from compassion.
“This initiative is about giving back to the lowly and serving humanity,” Dr Oron said.
He spoke not just as a legislator, but as a fellow human being committed to easing the burdens of those less fortunate.
For him, distributing food and essential items is a way to translate empathy into action.
Residents expressed profound gratitude for his efforts.
Mr Victor Owino said, “We owe him a debt of gratitude. His support comes when we need it most.”
Another resident, Mr Joseph Oduor said it is a blessing to receive the gifts.

"It shows he truly cares about our lives,”Mr Oduor said.
Ms Josephine Auma on her part said Dr Oron’s help has made the end-year season brighter.
"We feel seen and supported,” Ms Auma said.
Others, including Mary Omollo, Caren Otieno, and Geoffrey Owaga, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting how his consistent outreach has become a beacon of hope during this time of year.
Already, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has joined in the spirit of giving and showing care to residents.
Prof Nyong'o has sent festive greetings to residents and staff, wishing them a blessed, healthy, and prosperous 2026.
His message reinforced the communal spirit, reminding the county that leadership and service are deeply intertwined.
The impact of such initiatives goes beyond the immediate relief. It fosters trust, strengthens community bonds, and sets a moral example for others in positions of influence.
While critics might question the political undertones of charitable acts, the gratitude expressed by residents underscores a fundamental truth: human kindness resonates, irrespective of politics.
In Uriri Constituency in Migori, a football tournament organised by MP Mark Nyamita has been successful and the legislator used the sporting event to meet his constituents and understand their needs.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi recently convened residents to his home and gifted them with goodies.
At such a time of the year, it is normal to see leaders go back to the people they serve and reassure them that they care.
