Kenya ,December 30 2025 - Mali have advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after being held to a 0–0 draw by Comoros in their final Group A fixture in Casablanca on Monday. The result ensured the Eagles finished second in the group and booked their place in the knockout rounds despite drawing all three of their group matches.
In a match defined more by tactical caution than attacking flair, neither side could find a breakthrough at the Stade Mohamed V, as both teams struggled to create clear chances in front of goal. Mali dominated possession and territory throughout much of the contest but were repeatedly denied by Comoros’ resilient defensive display.
Mali’s best opportunities came through midfield dynamo Yves Bissouma and creative forward Kamory Doumbia, but neither could convert during their promising moments. Comoros also threatened late on, with substitute El Fardou Ben forcing a solid save from Mali goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, one of the few clear efforts of the night.
The draw capped off a unique group stage for Mali, who finished with three points from three games — a rare feat achieved solely through draws. Despite not winning a match, Mali’s consistency proved sufficient, as they finished behind Group A winners Morocco and ahead of Comoros on points and goal difference.

Mali’s unbeaten run in the group stage earns them a last-16 clash against the runners-up from Group C, with their opponents set to be confirmed after the final matches in that pool. However, Mali will face the next phase without midfielder Amadou Haidara, who received a late red card against Comoros and will miss the first knockout match.
Comoros, meanwhile, depart the tournament with commendable performances but ultimately fall short of progressing, finishing third with two points, not enough to make the next round as one of the best third-placed teams.
Mali now turn their focus to the knockout stages, motivated by a disciplined defensive display and the chance to advance further in Morocco.
