Hiiraan(Dawan Africa) - The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced on Sunday that it had killed eight members of the Al-Shabaab militant group in a planned operation carried out on Thursday in the Aboorey area of Hiiraan region, central Somalia.
In a brief statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, NISA said the raid targeted a house where members of the group had allegedly been meeting to plan attacks on local civilians.
“A planned operation jointly conducted by NISA and international partners resulted in the killing of eight individuals, including commanders and fighters,” the agency wrote.
NISA referred to the operation as coordinated with international partners, though it did not specify the identity of those partners or disclose any names, photos, or additional information about the individuals killed.
Aboorey is located in Hiiraan region, a key frontline in Somalia’s ongoing military campaign against Al-Shabaab. The region has witnessed intensified operations in recent months, as Somali forces and allied militias attempt to dislodge the group from rural strongholds.
Al-Shabaab has not publicly commented on the incident, and no independent verification of the reported casualties has been released as of the time of publication.
