Hiiraan (Dawan Africa) – Somalia's National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) reported on Monday that it had successfully carried out a series of overnight operations in the Hiiraan region, resulting in the deaths of 15 Al-Shabaab fighters.
According to NISA, the operation took place near the Gayacad junction, close to the Mabaax area in Hiiraan. The agency said the mission was coordinated with international partners. The operation involved three targeted night strikes aimed at Al-Shabaab militants who had previously left Aden Yabaal and Ceel Cali Axmed in the Middle Shabelle region. These fighters were allegedly on their way to provide reinforcements to Al-Shabaab units trapped in parts of Hiiraan.
The agency confirmed that 15 militants, including senior field commanders, were killed, and five others sustained serious injuries. Additionally, NISA disclosed that the Al-Shabaab militants had attempted to seek refuge in remote forested areas but were tracked down and neutralized.
“The operation is ongoing, and our forces are in pursuit of the militants who escaped the initial strike,” said NISA in a statement.
This announcement comes a day after NISA reported killing 7 more Al-Shabaab operatives in a separate night raid conducted on Sunday. The back-to-back operations are a part of Somalia's intensified efforts to combat Al-Shabaab's activities, particularly after the group's recent capture of Moqokori, a strategic stronghold once held by local defense forces.
