Kenya, November 24 2025 -Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo has been impeached for the third time after a majority of Members of the County Assembly voted to remove him from office.
The motion, tabled by Bonyamatuta Ward MCA Julius Kimwomi Matwere, accused the governor of gross misconduct, abuse of office, irregular appointments, and mismanagement of public funds.
Out of the 31 MCAs, 23 supported the motion, while four abstained. Those backing the impeachment said the governor had repeatedly acted in ways that undermined the integrity and trust expected of county leadership.
With the vote now concluded, the matter moves to the Senate, which will make the final decision on whether Governor Nyaribo stays or goes.
At the heart of the motion are claims linked to Governor Nyaribo’s involvement in an earlier impeachment dispute and his support for a breakaway assembly group known as “Bunge Mashinani,”led by former Speaker Enock Okero.

According to the motion, the governor knowingly backed and promoted an “unlawful and unconstitutional” Bunge Mashinani gazette, even after the group had been stripped of authority. Matwere argued that Nyaribo’s conduct amounted to a “deliberate and sustained attack” on the Constitution.
The Bunge Mashinani team had been meeting outside the official county assembly chambers, holding unauthorised sittings across the county.. The motion also accuses the governor of irregularly appointing committee members in Keroka town and approving the creation of a Public Service Board selection panel through the parallel assembly.
The motion also raised a concern on his approval of county funds to appoint Peris Nyaboke-Oroko as County Agriculture Minister at a time when there was a dispute over who held legitimate leadership of the assembly, a decision critics say was outside the law.
Nyaribo had previously survived two impeachment efforts, in October 2023 and September 2024, which had accused him of mismanagement, nepotism, and failing to follow statutory requirements.
