ODM Sets Mid-2026 Timeline to Define Political Path

Kenya, 24 December 2025 - The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is entering a critical phase of internal reflection as it weighs its political future ahead of the 2027 general election.

Party stalwart and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga says ODM will outline its political direction by mid-2026, signalling a deliberate effort to manage internal debate while keeping options open.

Oburu noted that the party is not in a hurry to make decisions on alliances or electoral strategy, arguing that such choices must be informed by broad consultations within ODM structures. According to him, the party remains focused on national interests and stability as it evaluates its next steps.

ODM’s current participation in a broad-based government has generated mixed reactions among its supporters and leaders. While some see cooperation with the ruling administration as a pragmatic way to influence policy and development, others fear it could dilute the party’s identity as an opposition force.

The mid-2026 timeline appears aimed at containing these tensions while allowing time for consensus building.

In postponing a definitive stance, ODM leadership is also buying time to assess the evolving political environment.

For now, the party is projecting calm and cohesion, emphasising dialogue over confrontation.

As Oburu put it, ODM will “take time, consult widely and make a collective decision,” underscoring a strategy that prioritises internal unity as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
