Mogadishu, Somalia (Dawan Africa) – More than 40,000 students in Mogadishu participated in the Government Unified Intermediate School Exams today, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.
This year, 41,639 students from schools across the Banaadir region sat for the exams, held in 108 examination centers. The participation reflects a nearly 18% increase from the previous year, when just over 35,000 students took the exam. This growth underscores improvements in educational access across the region.
Ahmed, a student at Batramaha School, expressed his excitement to Dawan Africa, saying, "Today's exam is the one that will allow me to wear the uniform of secondary school and move forward into higher education."
Zakarie Soo Hoyde, a Dawan TV reporter, captured the spirit of the day: “A sense of hope and anticipation fills the air as thousands of students across the Banaadir region sit for the Secondary School Examination, a pivotal test that will determine their academic future. For many, it’s more than just an exam day; it's a critical step toward their dreams of secondary education.”
The Banaadir region is home to 50 government-run schools, with the Somali government prioritizing the enhancement of education quality and increasing student opportunities.
“We are proud of the progress we’ve made in expanding educational access for our students. However, we recognize the need for more government-run schools to ensure every student has access to quality education,” said the Education Director.
As the exams unfold in Mogadishu, the city remains a symbol of hope, empowering its youth to shape a brighter future through education.
