Rome, Italy(Mogadishu24)-The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, addressed crucial issues on food security and agricultural and livestock production in Somalia on Monday.
In a high-level session on Financing Food System Transformation in Rome, Italy, which brought together various Heads of State and Governments and other participants to discuss escalating global food insecurity and strategic financing to transform food systems, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud stated that the Somali Government has begun revitalizing its productive sector.
"The reality we see today in Somalia is that we have restarted revitalizing our productive sector, including livestock, agriculture, and fisheries for the maritime blue economy," said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
He further reiterated the government's commitment to extend these production improvements to rural areas.
"A year ago, half of the Somali population was at risk of famine. Now, they are not. We are reorganizing and starting cooperatives within rural communities in agriculture, livestock, and maritime resources," he added.
In a separate summit, a delegation led by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre of Somalia has arrived in Dar-es-Salaam, the capital city of Tanzania, ahead of the Africa Human Capital Heads of State Summit scheduled to commence on Tuesday.
The upcoming summit aims to focus on "linking investments in human capital to economic growth and harnessing the demographic dividend." Critical issues such as learning poverty and bridging the skills gap for the youth and women will be addressed during the discussions.
Somalia has recently demonstrated its commitment to strengthening regional developments, evident through the participation of top government officials in various summits and sessions to address the country's issues and regional matters. Over the past two weeks, Somali leaders, including ministers, have engaged in visits to neighboring countries, fostering mutual interests and building ties with Djibouti, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Uganda.
