The announcement was made during his Eid speech at Villa Somalia, emphasizing the government's commitment to tackle the threats posed by Al-Shabaab and Daesh through inclusive political processes.
Broad Support for the Dialogue
The initiative has garnered widespread support among opposition leaders. Prominent figures such as Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, Hassan Ali Khaire, and Abdurahman Abdishakur Warsame were among the first to welcome the president’s proposal, expressing their readiness to participate in the discussions. They have, however, requested detailed information on the agenda, timing, and participants to ensure the talks are productive.
Former and Current Leaders Rally Behind the Initiative
Former President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has endorsed the dialogue as a crucial step toward resolving political and security challenges. Similarly, Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), the President of Jubaland, who has previously had disputes with the federal government, supported the peace call during a public gathering for Eid prayers. Former Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble also praised President Hassan Sheikh’s decision, highlighting its potential to build political consensus.

While the initiative has been met with enthusiasm from various quarters, Puntland's administration has yet to respond. The federal state, often at odds with the central government’s policies, is anticipated to clarify its position soon, considering the dialogue's potential to address both security and political challenges comprehensively.
