Somalia, 29 October 2025 – The much-awaited Puntland Tourism Week was officially launched today at Mareero Beach, less than 10km from the frontline areas experiencing fierce fighting between Puntland forces and Islamic State (ISIS) militants.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Bosaso Mayor Abdirahman Abdillahi Ali, said the choice of Mareero Beach was a symbolic decision to highlight the resilience of Puntland’s forces and the region’s stability.
“The reason we are holding the festival here, less than 10 kilometers from the frontline against ISIS, is to show the strength and courage of our forces, and that they deserve to enjoy peace and security in their region,” he said.
The opening ceremony was attended by officials from the regional government, Bosaso district administration, and the Ministry of Tourism.
The three-day celebration will showcase the natural beauty and tourist attractions that make Puntland one of the region’s most appealing destinations. The celebrations aim to attract both domestic and international visitors to the Federal Member State.
