Somalia, 4 December 2025 — Qatar Charity announced on Tuesday that it has completed the construction of 73 surface wells across several Somali regions to support communities affected by recurrent drought and improve access to safe drinking water. The initiative is expected to benefit more than 36,500 people in rural and displaced populations.
The Hiran region received 28 wells, the highest number among the targeted areas. Bay received 15, Bakool 20, and Gedo 10. The distribution reflects varying levels of water scarcity and infrastructure needs across the regions.
According to Qatar Charity’s Somalia Office, the projects align with its broader humanitarian and development objectives.

Local officials in the affected regions noted that the new wells are expected to ease pressure on communities facing damaged water systems, long travel distances for potable water, and persistent water-borne health risks.
In 2024, Qatar Charity implemented 78 water projects in Somalia, reaching more than 140,000 people, as part of efforts to support drought-affected populations and strengthen community resilience.
