Following the 2–1 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League, Madrid’s second home defeat in four days, pressure intensified on Alonso, with Spanish media widely debating whether his departure was imminent.
However, according to El Chiringuito, the club’s message after internal discussions is clear: “Real Madrid’s answer on Xabi Alonso is patience.” The report further emphasised that “support remains with the manager,” signalling that the board is not currently seeking an immediate replacement.
The decision comes at a time when Alonso is facing his most difficult stretch since taking charge in the summer. Madrid have won just two of their last eight matches across all competitions, a run that has triggered frustration among supporters and raised doubts about the direction of the project. Despite the pressure, senior figures at the club reportedly believe that the squad remains united behind Alonso and that stability is essential during a turbulent period.
Speaking after the Manchester City defeat, Alonso defended his team’s attitude, saying the players showed “commitment and responsibility” despite the disappointing result. While he acknowledged the need for improvement, he insisted that the group is prepared to “fight through difficult moments,” reinforcing the idea that he still holds the dressing room’s confidence.
