Kenya, 20 October 2025 - Kenyan creative technology company SemaBOX Africa has unveiled YEBO, a new encrypted file-sharing platform designed to cater to the growing needs of African creators, filmmakers, and businesses seeking secure and efficient ways to exchange digital content.
Developed on Mozilla’s open-source framework, YEBO has been customized to address the unique challenges faced by African digital storytellers, from limited infrastructure to data privacy concerns.
The platform enables users to instantly upload and share video, audio, or other file formats through email, WhatsApp, or QR code, ensuring seamless transfers across multiple devices and operating systems.
Each transfer on YEBO is fully encrypted, guaranteeing the privacy and security of all shared files.
Users retain complete ownership of their content, which, according to SemaBOX Africa, will not be used to train AI models. Additional security options such as password protection, download limits, and file expiration dates further enhance user control.
“We’re bringing back full ownership and control to African creators,” the SemaBOX Africa team said in a statement.
“For too long, creators have depended on global platforms that don’t prioritize African privacy or intellectual property. YEBO changes that. It’s secure, simple, and built for us.”
Currently, YEBO offers free file transfers of up to 2.5GB, with premium plans for larger file sizes and professional users expected to roll out in the coming months. The platform’s clean interface and mobile-first design make it especially useful for creators working in remote locations or with limited internet connectivity.
The launch of YEBO aligns with SemaBOX Africa’s broader mission to empower local creators through digital infrastructure built with Africa’s realities in mind. By offering a secure, accessible, and privacy-focused alternative to global platforms, SemaBOX hopes to strengthen digital independence and creative innovation across the continent.
Industry experts have lauded the move as a timely step toward protecting the intellectual property of African creatives in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
As data protection, ownership, and creative sovereignty become increasingly critical, YEBO is positioning itself as a homegrown digital solution that puts African creators and their content, firmly in control of their work and their future.
