Kenya, 23 November 2025 - Anti-Narcotics Unit detectives have seized 2,400 kg of cannabis with an estimated street value of KSh 72 million and arrested six suspected traffickers during a carefully coordinated operation on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
Following a tip-off, officers intercepted a lorry registered KDT 659G before the drugs could reach the city. A thorough search uncovered fifty sacks containing long rolls of cannabis wrapped in khaki paper, weighing a total of 2,400 kilogrammes.
The driver, Nolden Ogola Misieba, and his assistant, Andrew Kaida, were arrested at the scene.
In swift follow-up action, detectives stopped three further vehicles suspected to be part of the same distribution ring.
They are a Toyota Noah (registration KCL 458S) driven by Jefferson Kamau with passenger Lawrence Onyango, a Nissan Note (KCZ 567R) driven by John Lutomia, and a Toyota Vitz (KDQ 867K) driven by Samuel Juma Okoth.
"Subsequent investigations have since revealed that the three vehicles were meant to be loaded with the intercepted consignment for distribution across Mombasa and its environs," the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said via X platform.
All six suspects remain in police custody and are being processed ahead of appearing in court.

The cannabis and the four vehicles have been impounded as exhibits.
The DCI praised the success as proof of the value of intelligence-led policing and thanked members of the public whose prompt information made the operation possible, stressing that community vigilance is vital in the continuing battle against drug trafficking.
The haul is one of the largest single seizures of cannabis along the coastal route in recent months and represents a serious blow to trafficking networks using the corridor.
The DCI has pledged to sustain intense pressure on narcotics syndicates.
In October 2025, a multi-agency operation in the Indian Ocean led to the seizure of methamphetamine with street value of KSh 8.2 billion that was found hidden in compartments in a stateless vessel where six Iranian nationals were arrested.
