Somalia, 30 November 2025 – The Somali Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA) and Plan International have agreed to strengthen exchange of data and early warnings to help mitigate the effects of recurrent droughts in Somalia.
A meeting held on Saturday in Mogadishu between officials from both organizations focussed on ways of enhancing cooperation between the two organizations, and improving early warning systems and rapid response mechanisms for the Somali community.
The meeting was led by SoDMA Chairman, Mahamud Ma’alin Abdulle, while the Plan International delegation was headed by the Director for the Horn of Africa, East Africa, and Southern Africa, Angela Muriithi.

The delegation also included the organization's Director for Somalia, Sadia Allin, and Advisor for Cooperation and Partnership, Farah Osman.
Both parties agreed to expedite preparations and propose initiatives to expand cooperation, aligning with the national priorities for disaster management.
The strategic partnership between the two organizations was also emphasized, with a focus on addressing emergency situations and creating joint opportunities.
