Somalia, 27 October 2025 — The Somali government is preparing to revive Somali Airlines while undertaking upgrades at Aden Adde International Airport, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Farah Nuh has announced. during the handover ceremony for the airport’s new management.
Speaking during the handover ceremony for the airport’s new management in Mogadishu, Minister Nuh said the revival aimed to ensure the country has a safe, reliable airline that operates in accordance with international standards.
“Exciting developments are ahead for us and the Somali people. Somali Airlines, which we have long awaited, is expected to return before the end of this year,” Nuh said, stressing the importance of airport modernization, staff training, and regulatory compliance.
He criticized past political interference and unauthorized activities at the airport, calling for adherence to proper management and regulations.
“This is not about lack of knowledge or equipment. It is a disregard for the law from our government staff and security personnel, and political actors have at times caused disruptions to airport operations,” Nuh added.
The minister also highlighted the government’s plans to bring in new aircraft, upgrade airport facilities, and improve overall operations, emphasizing that all work will follow proper laws and regulations.
The airline’s relaunch announcement follows the government’s purchase of two Airbus A320 aircraft, marking the first national carrier operations since Somalia’s central government collapsed in 1991. Announced in July 2025, the acquisition aims to restore domestic and international connectivity, improve national air travel, and reclaim a key part of Somalia’s national identity.
