Mogadishu (Dawan Africa) – Somalia’s Council of Ministers on Thursday approved the Cybercrime Bill, which was proposed by the Ministry of Communications and Technology.
The Office of the Prime Minister said the legislation emphasizes the protection of confidentiality, integrity, and security of information systems.
“This law focuses on confidentiality, integrity, and the security of computer systems, networks, and programs; the prevention of illegal use of computer systems; detection, investigation, prosecution, and punishment of cybercrimes; protection of public interest, morality, and social values; and the safeguarding of the national economy and critical information infrastructure,” the Office stated.
Officials said the bill will now proceed to Parliament for further deliberation.
Somalia’s high internet connectivity rate has also contributed to an increase in cyber-related crimes. Authorities say the new framework will help regulate digital activities and strengthen accountability mechanisms.
