Somalia, 22 November 2025— The Federal Government of Somalia has said it is ready to share revenue generated from the electronic visa (e-Visa) system with Somaliland and Federal Member States.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ali Mohamed Omar Bal’ad, made the remarks in an interview with Dawan, on the Miizaan Podcast, when asked how the government is responding to complaints raised by Somaliland regarding the implementation of the e-Visa system.
Bal’ad said the government has agreed to open discussions on revenue generated from the e-Visa and confirmed that the Ministry of Finance is ready to participate in revenue-sharing arrangements.

“The government is open to dialogue regarding revenue generated from the e-Visa, and the Ministry of Finance is also ready to share this revenue,” Bal’ad said.
The e-Visa system carries a fee of $64 per applicant, which the government says is paid by all visa applicants and deposited directly into the national treasury. The system was officially implemented in September 2025.
Somaliland has previously rejected the implementation of the e-Visa system, a move that has resulted in travellers arriving at its airports being required to pay two separate fees — one to the Federal Government and another to the Somaliland.
