Nairobi(Mogadishu24)-Somali leaders, politicians, and musicians have expressed their condolences following the demise of a renowned Somali poet and musician Ahmed Naaji Saad in London, the capital of England.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud extended his condolences to the family, relatives, the music community, and the entire Somali nation for the loss of the late Somali poet and musician, Ahmed Naaji Saad.
He acknowledged the important role he played in promoting Somali art, literature, and culture.
Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, the Speaker of the Upper House, also conveyed his condolences and praised Ahmed Naaji's patriotism and contributions to raise awareness within the Somali community and preserve the nation's rich culture.
The Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre expressed the Prime Minister's condolences for the loss of Ahmed Naji Saad, acknowledging his pivotal role in Somali art, poetry and language.
“The Prime Minister of Somalia offers his condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the renowned musician Ahmed Naaji Saad who passed away in London,” the statement read.
The Prime Minister stated that the late artist played a major role in the reconciliation and reconstruction of the Somali government, as well as promoting peace between the communities using arts and poems.
Musicians who expressed condolences , include Hibo Mohamed Hiba Noura, Salad Mohamed, Ahmed Ali Igaal, Poet Nourani, Luul Ali Hassan, Nimco Yassin Araale, Lashin Ahmadey Abdi Ghashan, Poet Maki Haji Banadir, Poet Gure, Yussuf Shaacir, and many others within and outside the country.
Ahmed Naaji Saad was born in Mogadishu in 1939, completed his primary education at Bilaajo School, where he learned Arabic and Italian languages, as well as acting and playmaking.
He began his performing career in 1955, participating in events organized by the Somali Youth League (SYL) Party, which sought freedom and independence and involved singing national songs, including in Arabic songs.
