Mogadishu, (Dawan Africa) — The Federal Ministry of Defence of Somalia has announced the successful execution of a joint military operation on June 6, 2025, by the Somali National Army (SNA) and allied local forces in the Ceel-dheere area, located near the administrative border between Middle Shabelle and Hiiraan regions. The operation specifically targeted entrenched Al-Shabaab militants and involved both ground assaults and precision airstrikes.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the coordinated offensive resulted in the elimination of several Al-Shabaab fighters, including key senior field commanders. Multiple militant hideouts were destroyed during the operation, and intelligence reports suggest that the remaining militants fled the area in disarray, abandoning their previously held positions.
However, the Ministry refrained from disclosing the exact number of casualties, both killed and injured, citing operational security considerations.
This military action is part of a broader campaign by the Somali National Army, which is working alongside local community fighters and international partners, including the United States and the African Union. The coordinated efforts aim to dismantle Al-Shabaab's presence across central and southern Somalia, contributing to ongoing security and counterterrorism initiatives.
